The program consists of four modules, delivered in 90-minute sessions weekly over the course of a school year:
Module 1: SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-AWARENESS
- It allows young women to open up about what their struggles are, and to realize that they are not alone
- The young women will have opportunities to share interpersonal struggles and fears during our “Our Close & Personal” Sessions, which is basically a time to share what is going on in their lives during that week
- The book “Radiant” by Priscilla Shirer, helps prompt discussions and questions; quotes scripture, giving young women direction and confirmation of what is expected of them as young women and who God sees them as and to embrace it.
Module 2: Forgiveness and Purpose “Choosing Forgiveness”
- Focuses on Self-esteem building through various discussions; role-playing, writing in their personal journals
- Forgiveness for themselves and others and learning to love who they are
- The Gift of Forgiveness by Eva Gibson gives realistic direction on how to effectively understand forgiveness and also gives scripture
- The young women will have opportunities to share interpersonal struggles and fears during our “Up Close & Personal” Sessions, which is basically a time to share what is going on in their lives during that week
- Scripture and prayer and personal journal writing will be a big part of this session. Learning to talk with the Lord is very important in learning to love themselves
Module 3: Gifts and Talents “Truth In The Mirror”
- Involves delving into their self-image; self-worth and self-esteem
- The book “The Truth in the Mirror” by Karla Downing helps them truly understand the meaning of “Self” through true-life examples and scripture
- It will help them realize why their self-image is what it is; how to change it to uplift them and how to keep it that way
- Allows them to see how they see themselves today and how different they will see themselves after reading this book
- There should also be “up close and personal” time to share any struggles or praises they have faced for the week prior
Module 4: Career Development and Academic Planning/ GOAL SETTING “Curriculum created by P&P”
- The curriculum was created by Petals & Pinecones, Inc. and is based on the Virtuous Woman; Proverbs 31:10-31
- It also involves Goal Setting and weekly devotions
- We have found that striving for excellence is second to having the basic skills and knowing why we set goals
- Periodically throughout this module, a guest speaker comes in and allows a hands-on experience for the young women that includes: cooking, sewing, testimonials, budgeting/savings; resume and cover letter preparation; self defense
- The other weeks, we spend time going over short and long-term goals that the young women set and discuss whatever scripture was to read that week in their devotions
